Back in the day, philosophers did not necessarily make themselves as approachable as most would have liked. Getting a short meeting with one would have required significant travel plans or even long-term pilgrimages to distant lands yet to be explored.
It is as if we would have to travel to the highest mountain peak to ask the “great guru” for the meaning of life, only to lose our lives on our way down the mountain.
Dictionary.com Defines Philosophy (or philosopher) in This Way:
- A person who offers views or theories on profound questions in ethics, metaphysics, logic, and other related fields.
- A person who is deeply versed in philosophy.
- A person who establishes the central ideas of some movement, cult, etc.
- A person who regulates his or her life, actions, judgments, utterances, etc. by the light of philosophy or reason.
I don’t know about you, but that third one sounds a lot like a “thought leader” to me.
